THIS IS A REQUIREMENT!  I EXPECT EACH OF YOU TO ATTEND ALL FOUR WORKSHOPS.  SOME OF YOU WILL BE REQUIRED APART FROM WRESTLING.

I know, I suck...get used to it.  Hey, I guarantee that you'll learn something that will help you in your academic and probably your professional lives.

Subject: Student Success Workshops

Dear Colleagues,

The Success Center has scheduled Academic success workshops during the first 4 weeks of the semester.  Eight sessions will be offered each week on a specific topic.  Posters will be distributed throughout the campus. Flyers announcing each week’s workshop topic/schedule will be placed in student mailboxes 1 week in advance announcing the upcoming week’s workshop topic/schedule.  Information will be e-mailed to professors, coaches, and the student development staff with a note asking them to announce the workshops to students.  We hope they will encourage student participation.  You are free to provide whatever incentive you see fit for your students—particularly first-year students--to attend.

Students on academic probation will be required to attend one workshop each week.  Attendance at these workshops will count towards their required meetings with me during the first month of classes.  ADAPT students will also be required to attend one workshop each week.

Topic:  Time Management (Using a planner, managing your time, avoiding procrastination, and succeeding in college)

Topic:  Listening and Note Taking (Being an active listener, using effective listening skills, listening for key information and cues, organizing your notes, utilizing mind maps and study guides, and creating effective flash cards)

Topic: Study Skills (Reading and studying college textbooks, studying: why, when and how, understanding and remembering)

Topic: Test-taking (Reducing anxiety, preparing for exams, using memory techniques, and succeeding on college exams)

With the exception of September 18th all workshop sessions will be held in the Shepherd Room.  Students will be asked to register so we will know how many students to expect and can prepare the appropriate amount of materials. These look like excellent opportunities and we will count on your support.

Thanks,

Glenn

Dear Timothy,

It was a pleasure getting to know you throughout the admissions process at Manchester College.  As we continually strive to improve our process, your feedback is extremely valuable to our efforts.  Our on-line survey should take 5 - 10 minutes to complete and is designed for both students who are planning to enroll at Manchester College and for those who will attend another college.  Our survey is confidential, so please take this opportunity to be direct and candid.  Your insights will help us to better serve future applicants.

Upon completion of the survey, you will be entered into a drawing for a $100 cash prize.

Please click on the link below to access the survey

Best wishes,
Dave McFadden

Tim,

When you come on July 1st for Advising and Registration Day, you will be completing a writing sample while you’re here to place you in the appropriate English course.  You should be here for the 8:30 athletics meeting, then we’ll let you know where to go for the writing sample when you come to the Union at 9AM after athletics.  There is nothing to prepare for…again, it will just help us place you in the appropriate class.

We'll see you on Tuesday next week!

-Greg

New Blog
My name, Tim Phelps, is a common name. So, it's easy for me to get confused with another Tim Phelps. Lately, I am getting these e-mails that are apparently addressed to another Tim Phelps. I will post these e-mails -- without the e-mail addresses -- for your enjoyment.
